Sociology Transfer Major, AA

Campus: Clinton, Muscatine & Scott Community Colleges

Sociology is the study of the development, structure, and functioning of human society. The transfer major in sociology has been designed to provide students with a foundation in the concepts of sociology, the social sciences, and liberal arts/humanities. This program is for students interested in transferring to a four-year institution with a major in sociology, or a related field.

Transfer Institutions: Iowa State University, State University of Iowa, Northern Iowa University, Mount Mercy University, St. Ambrose University, University of Dubuque, and Upper Iowa University. Some of these institutions may have additional requirements. Please see your advisor for more information.

Math requirements are met through the discipline requirements for the Sociology Transfer Major.

Computer Skills (3 credits required)


Students may choose to demonstrate computer skills proficiency by exam and complete an elective in lieu of a computer skills course.

Electives (up to 9 credits required)


Students choose electives according to their needs and interests and the requirements of their intended transfer college to complete the 62 credit hours required of an Associate of Arts degree. While electives generally are chosen from any Arts and Science course numbered above 100, a maximum of 4 credit hours in SDV courses and 16 credit hours in career technical courses may be applied toward an AA.
