Medical Assistant, Diploma

Campus: Scott Community College

This diploma prepares individuals to provide medical office administrative services and perform clinical duties under the supervision of physicians including patient intake and care, routine diagnostic and recording procedures, pre-examination and examination assistance, and the administration of medications and first aid. The proposed program Includes instruction in basic anatomy and physiology; medical terminology; medical law and ethics; patient psychology and communications; medical office procedures; and clinical diagnostic, examination, testing, and treatment procedures.

Students may also begin this program in the spring term with slight modifications to the course sequence. Students who opt to begin in the Spring will attend Spring Term, Summer Term, and the first 8 weeks of the following Fall term.

The Medical Assistant program prepares students to sit for National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Medical Assistant Certification Exam. Student taking an extra, optional course are also eligible to sit for the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) Exam. The Medical Assistant program meets the educational prerequisite to sitting for the exams. See Professional Licensure for more information.

Students who successfully compete this Diploma program are eligible to sit for the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Medical Assistant Certification Exam.

Students that take an optional course beyond what EICC requires for completion of the program, are eligible to sit for the Registered Medical Assistant Exam (RMA) in addition to the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Medical Assistant Certification Exam.
