AGV 113 - Canine and Feline Nutrition

This course highlights nutrition as an essential component of pet care. The student will learn basic nutrition and the nutrient requirements for feeding and maintaining healthy dogs and cats. This course teaches students to design optimal nutritional care for all life stages of companion dogs and cats.

Prerequisite(s): A minimum grade of C in AGV 118  and AGV 127 
SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Explain the basic nutrients and energy requirements necessary to maintain optimal canine and feline health throughout all life stages.

  • Counsel clients about making appropriate, healthy dietary choices for their cats and dogs.

  • Calculate the nutritional value of commercial pet foods.

  • Describe nutritionally responsive disorders and health conditions.
