ADI 808 - Cardiac Sonography Clinical Education II

This course involves four days per week of clinical experience in affiliate hospitals, clinics, and/or imaging centers. Hands-on scanning experience on a variety of cardiac sonographic procedures under direct supervision of a staff sonographer will be gained. Emphasis will be placed on ergonomic safety, gaining proficiency in a variety of imaging techniques and protocols, as well as identification of normal and abnormal anatomy and pattern recognition. In addition, select basic imaging and technical competence will be performed. No

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an advanced understanding of the role and responsibilities of a diagnostic cardiac sonographer as a member of the healthcare team.

  • Provide appropriate instruction, preparation, and care before, during, and after cardiac sonographic procedures.

  • Perform both basic and more advanced cardiac sonographic procedures according to the affiliate sites established protocol.

  • Apply knowledge gained during the previous semester effectively and safely.

  • Adjust technical operating factors and scanning techniques to achieve optimum results.

  • Document image data to assure adequate demonstration of anatomy of interest.

  • Achieve successful completion of designated clinical competencies through accurate, safe, and professional performance consistent with program and accreditation standards.
