ADI 803 - Cardiac Sonography Clinical Education I

This course involves three to four days per week of clinical experience in affiliate hospitals, clinics, and/or imaging centers. You will observe and gain introductory hands-on scanning experience on a variety of cardiac sonographic procedures under direct supervision of a staff sonographer. You will observe laboratory demonstrations and perform standard exam protocols. Emphasis in the lab will focus on ergonomic safety, gaining proficiency in basic cardiac imaging techniques as well as identification of normal anatomy and pattern recognition. No

SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Develop a basic understanding of the role and responsibilities of a diagnostic cardiac sonographer.

  • Provide appropriate patient instruction, preparation, and care before, during, and after the imaging procedure.

  • Observe and perform selected basic echocardiography examinations according to protocol established by the clinical affiliate he/she is assigned.

  • Adjust technical operating factors and scanning techniques to achieve optimum results.

  • Record or archive image data to assure adequate demonstration of anatomy of interest.
