Study includes the classes of organic compounds: aliphatic hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, alcohols and phenols. Attention is also on methods of instrumental analysis including IR, NMR, and mass spectrometry. A functional group approach with emphasis on nomenclature, structure and bonding, physical properties, basic synthetic reactions and mechanisms. 59.4 Lec. Hrs. / 39.6 Lab Hrs. This course satisfies a general education requirement in the Natural Sciences Area.
