ASL 141 - American Sign Language I Credit(s) 4.00 Lecture Hours: 4.00 This course introduces students to interpersonal communication skills utilizing conversational American Sign Language (ASL). In addition, students will be introduced to cultural beliefs, values, and attitudes within American Deaf culture. This course will prepare students to use basic ASL both in and outside of the classroom via interaction with the Deaf Community, establishing a foundation for lifelong language learning. Students planning to earn the Deaf Studies Certificate must also take the corresponding laboratory course, ASL 142 American Sign Language I Lab. This course satisfies a general education requirement in the Cultural/Historical Perspectives Area.
