This course continues the study of melodic, harmonic and structural analysis. Sight singing and aural skills are included.

Prerequisite(s): MUS 120  
SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Write original, four-voice chorales with cadences in all keys.

  • Identify phrase, period and successive phrase forms.

  • Identify melodic devices.

  • Transpose for instruments.

  • Recognize non-harmonic tones.

  • Use secondary dominants.

  • Part-write modulations using pivot chords.

  • Sight-sing melodies with tonic, subdominant and dominant harmonies.

  • Dictate chord progressions and melodies based on the tonic, subdominant and dominant chords.

  • Recognize medieval modes.
