Adult and Continuing Education

Adult Education

The Adult Education and Literacy department offers basic training for individuals who are seeking basic skill development, desire a high school equivalency credential, or are interested in enhancing English language skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.  The high school equivalency (HSE) credential uses pathways to ensure students success, including:  traditional classes (offered in-person or via teleconference) using the HiSET standardized exam; credit recovery (for students needing fewer than 7 semester credits); and retroactive credentials for individuals who have completed an associate’s degree or higher.  Learners in the English Language Acquisition (ELA) program have access to leveled instruction suitable for their ability level, with opportunities to advance as new skills are developed.  Students who successfully complete the adult education program are provided opportunities to transition to college-level coursework, to the workforce, or both.  Coursework with these programs is tailored to the needs of the student.  Participants progress at a pace that is most fitting for their needs.

Continuing Education

The prospect of becoming a lifelong learner is more important than ever before.  The continuing education and workforce development teams partner to provide a wide variety of short-term training options for individuals desiring specific knowledge and skills or who are interested in broadening their personal or professional horizons.

Programs including Truck Driving, Manufacturing, Workplace Safety, and other relevant skills help to promote a thriving and productive workforce.  Professional development options such as leadership training, information technology skill development, and professional licensing courses are a few of the ways that we offer solutions for those who wish to expand their workplace skill set.  In addition, community education courses offer a wide array of opportunities to engage in personal development skills such as cooking, arts and crafts, natural resources, wellness, and more.  Each summer, the department offers skill development opportunities for area youth through its kids camps. The college also holds a vast catalog of online options for individuals who seek remote training opportunities.

Whether you represent an employer desiring to bring comprehensive and customizable training services to your colleagues or you are an individual with a need to further develop your resume or engage in fun and exciting learning opportunities, continuing education has what you need. To view a comprehensive list of continuing education offerings, follow this link.
