Renewable Energy System Specialist, AAS

This program is designed to train individuals who wish to enter the job market with the skills to perform a variety of job functions in the renewable energy field. Renewable Energy Systems Specialists are responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting solar systems and wind turbines. People in this position need a strong electromechanical background and therefore will receive such training. Renewable Energy System Specialists need to be able to analyze a site, install equipment and have working knowledge of electrical systems, pumps and motors related to renewable energies. The renewable energy field includes the electrical production industry, the bio-fuels industry and the renewable energy equipment manufacturing sectors.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Renewable Energy System Specialist program, students will be able to:

  1. Evaluate the energy use of commercial and residential buildings and perform site assessments for solar electric. 
  2. Use testing equipment, and P.P.E required for performing solar (PV) and wind energy installation and maintenance work in accordance with industry standards. 
  3. Demonstrate knowledge in designing and installing solar (PV) and wind energy systems. 
  4. Install, troubleshoot, repair and modify mechanical and electrical systems including programmable controllers 
  5. Obtain, complete, and understand zoning regulations, building permit, utility intertie connection, and utility distributed generation agreements. 
  6. Assist in design, install and maintain solar electric systems and ensure compliance with the national electrical code.
