Campus: Scott Community College

Graduates of the Surgical Technology AAS degree will have the necessary skills to enter the operating room as a surgical technologist.

A Surgical Technologist handles instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. Surgical Technology graduates have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of procedures performed and can anticipate the needs of the surgeon in order to achieve a positive patient outcome. Graduates also have the ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and be constantly vigilant for maintenance of the sterile field.

Graduates with a Surgical Technology AAS degree will open up many avenues for employment and have the skills to fulfill many roles. In addition to positions in an operating room, Surgical Technologists with this degree are prepared to manage a Sterile Processing Department, go into medical device sales, or even teach in a Surgical Technology Program. The AAS degree in Surgical Technology is rapidly becoming the preferred entry-level for employers.

The Surgical Technology program prepares students to sit for the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Examination. Students must have completed a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) approved educational program prior to sitting for the exam. See Professional Licensure for more information.

EICC’s Surgical Technology program is accredited by Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). This allows qualified students to sit for national board certification and earn Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Certification.

In addition to the general admission requirements of the college, applicants to this program must meet specific program admission criteria. The application process and admission requirements for the Surgical Technology program can be found at www.eicc.edu/surgtech.
