Emergency Medical Services, AAS

Campus: Clinton, Muscatine, and Scott Community Colleges

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) AAS program prepares graduates for successful completion of the National Registry EMT Psychomotor and Cognitive Examinations as well as the National Registry Paramedic Psychomotor and Cognitive Examinations. With passing results, the student will receive State of Iowa EMT and Paramedic certifications. The Paramedic is the highest trained pre-hospital care provider in the State of Iowa.

Graduates will have the tools to adapt to public expectations and to take leadership roles in the evolution of prehospital patient care and may experience enhanced career opportunities. They will be equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to take proactive roles in Emergency Medical Services research, quality improvement, public education, and system management.

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) programs are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Emergency Medical Services program, students will be able to:

Demonstrate the ability to function as a competent entry-level paramedic in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning domains.
Demonstrate the skills required for the National Registry certification cognitive exam.
Demonstrate the skills required for the National Registry Psychomotor exam.
