EMS 345 - Emergency Medical Technician I

This course provides emergency medical care information at an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) level as outlined by the National Emergency Medical Services Education standards. The course introduces basic emergency care concepts in a preparatory module, including fundamental knowledge of the EMS system, safety/well-being of the EMT, medical/legal and ethical issues, airway management, and patient assessment. The course requires HIPAA, Infection Control and Mandatory Reporting for child/adult training for health care providers.  No

Prerequisite(s): Student must be 17 years of age at the time of registration.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 

  • Interpret and apply EMS and general medical knowledge necessary to function in a healthcare setting.
  • Perform a broad range of EMT level EMS skills both difficult and routine.
  • Conduct oneself in an ethical and professional manner to show proficiency in interpersonal relations and communications.
  • Associate the general knowledge necessary to function in a healthcare setting. 
  • Collect data from charts and patients. 
  • Recommend appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
