CIS 106 - Programming Foundations for AI

This course introduces the fundamentals of Python programming in the context of artificial intelligence (AI) and data science applications. Students will learn core programming concepts, basic algorithms, object-oriented programming, and essential data structures, along with hands-on experience using industry-standard libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, and Matplotlib. Real-world AI case studies will provide exposure to machine learning, natural language processing, and big data tools. The course emphasizes problem-solving, computational thinking, and programming skills as a foundation for futher study in AI and advanced computing.  No

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Write Python programs using variables, data types, control structures, and functions.
  • Implement fundamental data structures, including lists, dictionaries, sets, and tuples.
  • Develop basic algorithms for searching and sorting data.
  • Apply object-oriented programming concepts, including classes, inheritance, and encapsulation. 
  • Utilize NumPy, Pandas, and Matplotlib for data manipulation and visualization. 
  • Demonstrate problem-solving skills by completing AI-related programming projects.
  • Interpret and modify code for basic AI and data science applications.
