SPC 114 - Advanced Public Speaking Credit(s) 1.00 - 3.00 Lecture Hours: 1.00- 3.00 3.00 This course will help refine your public speaking skills and become a more confident, compelling communicator in academic, professional, and civic settings. Building on foundational techniques, you will analyze and explore advanced strategies in speech composition, delivery, audience analysis, and persuasive rhetoric. Emphasis is placed on extemporaneous speaking, storytelling, presentation aids, up-to-date classroom technology, and managing speaking anxiety. You will apply what you learn to a variety of speeches - including informative, persuasive, and special occasion presentations - and receive constructive feedback through peer and instructor evaluations. Prerequisite(s): and SLOs: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Create and understand practical aspects of contemporary public speaking theory in design and delivery of various presentations.
- Apply additional experience in public speaking beyond what is required in an introductory level speech course.
- Understand and apply speech techniques with superior vocal and physical speech delivery.
- Evaluate and demonstrate the ability to collect, analyze, and utilize information effectively for a variety of different topics, audiences, and purposes.
- Create a clear understanding of the components of ethical and effective public communication.
