MFG 371 - Manual Projects Credit(s) 3.00 Lecture Hours: 1.50 Lab Hours: 3.00 This course will develop the primary skills and knowledge to use basic measurement instruments and manual machine tools in the laboratory situation. Areas of instruction will include basic measurement tools, speed and feeds for machining, drill press, manual vertical milling machine and manual lathe. Prerequisite(s): Corequisite(s): Must be taken with : Workplace Safety SLOs: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Apply safe working practices in a machine setting to minimize hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Calculate machining-related mathematical problems, including speeds, feeds, and tolerances, to support accurate machine operations.
- Select and use appropriate measurement tools to inspect machined components for accuracy and compliance with specifications.
- Interpret technical drawings and perform layout operations to prepare materials for machining.
- Set up and operate a drill press to produce holes in specified dimensions and tolerances.
- Configure and operate a vertical milling machine to perform basic and intermediate machining tasks according to specifications.
- Set up and operate a manual lathe to machine parts to specified dimensions, ensuring proper tool selection and cutting parameters.
