HUM 136 - Humanities of the Renaissance

This course surveys the major cultural achievements and ideas of Western Civilization from the Renaissance through the 18th Century. Art, architecture, music, literature, and drama are presented as they reflect the world view of each historical era. No This course satisfies a general education requirement in the Arts and Humanities Area.

SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify key aspects of the study of early modern cultures from the perspective of the humanities.
  • Analyze humanities artifacts to understand what they say about the human experience of modernization and early modern cultures.
  • Compare and constrast cultural worldviews in a chronological framework.
  • Critique the early modern development of Western value of humanism, and humanism’s view of the worth, rights, and capabilities of the individual.
