ECE 221 - Infant/Toddler Care and Education

This course focuses on care, education, and assessment of children from birth to thirty-six months. It will prepare students to utilize developmentally appropriate evidence-based practices including responsive caregiving and routines as curriculum. Students will also learn to build collaborative relationships with children and families from a variety of backgrounds.

Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Compare and contrast the similarities and differences in the development of infants and toddlers.
Develop an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the adult caregiver in the infant/toddler classroom.
Illustrate appropriate health, safety and guidance techniques to use with infants and toddlers.
Assess the development of infants and toddlers.
Plan and implement developmentally appropriate environments and learning opportunities for infants and toddlers.
