ECE 221 - Infant/Toddler Care and Education

This course focuses on care, education, and assessment of children from birth to thirty-six months. It will prepare students to utilize developmentally appropriate evidence-based practices including responsive caregiving and routines as curriculum. Students will also learn to build collaborative relationships with children and families from a variety of backgrounds.

Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Compare and contrast the similarities and differences in the development of infants and toddlers.

  • Develop an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the adult caregiver in the infant/toddler classroom.

  • Illustrate appropriate health, safety and guidance techniques to use with infants and toddlers.

  • Assess the development of infants and toddlers.

  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate environments and learning opportunities for infants and toddlers.
