This course introduces the causes of juvenile delinquency and the modification of such behavior by corrective institutions and individual therapy. Emphasis is placed on the study of the development of individual personality through inter-family relationships and antisocial aggressive acts from early abnormal family and social situations. SLOs: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Display understanding of social science methods used in analyzing social phenomena and how they contribute to juvenile delinquency.

Use basic juvenile delinquency terms and concepts appropriately.

Demonstrate a basic understanding of the historical development of juvenile delinquency.

Explain the major theoretical positions of the different schools of juvenile delinquency.

Debate the techniques used to collect crime data.

Distinguish between biological, psychological, and sociological theories of juvenile delinquency.

Recognize the different crime typologies that exist.
