This course focuses on the student developing an understanding of self in order to strengthen basic professional skills to maximize productivity in the workplace and increase an individual’s competitive edge. The emphasis is placed on the student’s ability to be prepared for the challenges of everyday situations in the workplace. Major topics include work ethics, workplace values promoted by employers, self-reflection and willingness to make changes as needed, business etiquette, effective communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and stress management. SLOs: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate proper business etiquette in the workplace.
- Discuss active listening, constructive feedback, and effective interpersonal communications techniques to convey messages.
- Describe and display effective behavior in a team environment.
- Investigate and apply problem-solving techniques to solve real life and business like problems.
- Examine the need for a more healthy and balanced life.
- Integrate workplace skills to include critical thinking, integrative application, systems thinking, autonomy, responsibility, self-awareness, reflection, communication, involvement, teamwork, and leadership.
