ART 173 - Ceramics

This course is an introductory ceramics course with emphasis on ceramics as a creative art. The student will work with the basic elements of forming, glazing and firing clay. Awareness of three-dimensional design and the effects of glaze, color, and texture will be stressed.

SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Learn the vocabulary of ceramics.

  • Develop their knowledge regarding the history and current trends in ceramics.

  • Learn a variety of fundamental techniques in pottery.

  • Learn about firing ceramics.

  • Learn about three-dimensional design.

  • Develop an understanding of craftsmanship.
