This is an intermediate level drawing course that further explores the use of traditional drawing materials, along with use of some non-traditional materials. This class continues with the study of observed forms and objects with expanded subject matter and development of personal expression through drawing. The development of strong compositional skills will be emphasized. Students in this second-level course will apply some study of human anatomy as it relates to drawing. Students will continue to increase and apply their knowledge of Masterworks, contemporary artists, and critical arts movements to their course work.

Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Approach creativity with a critical mindset.
Demonstrate intermediate level comprehension and skills in the use of traditional and non-traditional drawing materials and concepts.
Integrate intermediate drawing techniques and concepts with the development of fully-composed drawings.
Demonstrate familiarity and skill with basic and intermediate drawing exercises and concepts such as gesture, negative space, and figure/ground.
Demonstrate intermediate level drawing competence in the directly in the directly observed form, such as figure, still life and landscape.
Apply and demonstrate skill with the use of visual elements and principles of design in both black and white and color media.
Demonstrate and integrate knowledge of Master works and critical arts movements with drawings, class discussion and written papers.
Demonstrate a developing vision and personal expression through drawing in varied media.
Demonstrate a developing comprehension and application of human and animal anatomy in drawing.
Demonstrate an ability to explore a subject/motif through series work.
