This course is a comparative study of culture and social organization and the study of the effect and influence of language. This course satisfies a general education requirement in the Cultural/Historical Perspectives Area.

SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Develop an understanding of anthropology as a science.

  • Trace the history of anthropology and anthropological theory.

  • Know the four subdisciplines within anthropology.

  • Know the terminology used to describe the diversity of institutional systems.

  • Know the various forms of stratification.

  • Know forms of expressive arts.

  • Know the sources of socio-cultural change.

  • Write a well-reasoned ethnographic or ethnological paper or essay based on an anthropological theory.
