AGS 401 - Swine Production

This course is the first of two courses that together, provide the basic knowledge required when planning to operate a profitable swine enterprise. Swine facilities from past to present are analyzed with special emphasis on the economic, social, environmental and physical demands of sustainability. Included are the fundamentals of swine care, selection, breeding, reproduction, management and disease prevention and control.

SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the basic production principles necessary for raising swine.

  • Manage a swine operation.

  • Troubleshoot challenges and issues in a swine operation.
