AGS 352 - Genetics

This course deals with basic genetic principles as applied to crop and livestock science. Topics will include selection, breeding systems, breeding animals on individual type, progeny testing, and genetic improvement. Seed selection based on hybrid characteristics and basic biotechnological advances will be discussed.

SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Communicate the basic principles of genetics and heredity.

  • Explain reasons behind plant and animal selection.

  • Identify different breeding practices.

  • Define how biotechnology is used in agriculture.
