AGS 315 - Principles of Animal Nutrition

This course is a study of the digestive systems of farm livestock including the basic food nutrients, how and why they are needed by the animals, and the individual nutrient requirements of each farm animal depending on the stage of growth, development, or function. This course also covers topics such as selection of feeds for feeding farm animals and the procedures used to determine what feeds to use. Students will select the proper feed rations to use and learn to formulate balanced feed rations.

SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Explain the importance of proper nutrition.

  • Explain the various feed and forage dietary ingredients.

  • Explain the various digestive systems, their parts, and their function.
