This course provides the opportunity to further study concepts essential to quality patient care and sonographic exam performance. A wide variety of cardiac case studies will be presented and critiqued with emphasis on identification of normal anatomy, recognition of pathologic processes, and technical exam quality. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Demonstrate the ability to obtain a relevant clinical history and physical assessment of a patient.
Differentiate between pathological conditions based on clinical history, physical assessment of the patient, and sonographic findings.
Evaluate the technical quality of echocardiography exams and any need for modification of imaging technique to improve exam quality.
Demonstrate proficiency in recognizing normal and abnormal sonographic patterns on echocardiograms.
Compose a relevant clinical history and preliminary exam interpretation for submission or presentation to the interpreting physician.
