HIT 525 - Quality Management Credit(s) 3.00 Lecture Hours: 3.00 This course provides an overview of performance improvement as it pertains to health information management. Topics include the history and development of quality management in healthcare, utilization management, risk management, and compliance with organizational and external regulations and standards. Additional topics include the use of graphic tools for monitoring, reporting, improving processes, and data presentation. This course replaces parts of HIT 440.
Prerequisite(s): A minimum grade of C- in HIT 355 , HIT 415 , HIT 422 , and HIT 485 . SLOs: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Determine compliance of health record content within the health organization.
- Evaluate data dictionaries and data sets for compliance with governance standards.
- Report healthcare data through graphical representations.
- Describe research methodologies used in healthcare.
- Summarize regulatory requirements and reimbursement methodologies.
- Identify the components of risk management related to health information management.
- Identify the impact of policy on healthcare.
