PE 450 - Administrators and Non-Faculty Staff Teaching Classes It shall be the policy of the Eastern Iowa Community College (EICCD) to allow salaried administrators and staff who meet normal educational qualifications required for the course(s) assigned to teach a combined maximum of eight credit hours or 240 Continuing Education clock hours equivalent per term.
Permission to teach may be granted if the immediate supervisor determines that the requesting employee is meeting work and performance expectations at the time of the request, and the assignment:
- is part of the college’s instructional program and that class assignments are outside their regular working hours; and
- provides the administrator or staff personnel with an opportunity to interact with students in a way that will enhance their role in the College; and
- will not interfere with the employee’s (administrator/staff) primary position’s workload or schedule (including the electronic use of Canvas and related student support systems during regular work hours and duties associated with teaching, such as grading, preparation, etc.); and
- all levels of required approval are obtained prior to instruction.
The employee’s supervisor and Senior Leadership Team member will evaluate each request to teach on a case-by-case basis. EICCD reserves the right to change or modify these teaching assignments, and to limit those assignments if performance issues arise.
