A 27 - Compensatory Time and Overtime Pay for Hourly Support Staff


Hourly support staff are “non-exempt” from overtime requirements.

The District has established the standard work week as 40 hours per week. However, hours of employment may vary to accommodate the operational needs of the District.

Compensatory Time

Compensatory time may be accumulated up to a maximum of 40 hours worked. In no case may compensatory time be allowed to accumulate beyond 40 hours worked. Compensatory time will be earned at a ratio of one and one-half hours earned for each hour worked above the 40-hour work week. Compensatory time off must be scheduled with the approval of the supervisor. Compensatory time will be computed in minimum increments of one-half hour. For the purpose of accumulated compensatory time earned, the forty-hour work week will include sick, holiday, vacation and personal leave.

Overtime

Overtime will be paid at a rate of 1 1/2 times the regular hourly rate of the employee. Overtime will be paid in the following situations:

  1. When an employee has accumulated the maximum 60 hours of compensatory time (40 hours x 1.5 = 60), any hours above the normal work week must be paid at the overtime rate.
     
  2. The employee and supervisor may agree to pay overtime in lieu of the accumulation of compensatory time.

All overtime and compensatory time must be recorded on the timesheet and approved by the supervisor. Maximum accumulated compensatory time is 40 hours worked x 1.5 = 60 hours compensatory time accumulated.
