A 20 - Continuing Education Remuneration

  1. Instructor pay is based on the market rate of a given discipline. The pay rates may be used for direct student instruction, consulting services with clients, or development of instructional materials or content. When performing consulting services on behalf of EICC or development of instructional materials or content, a written agreement of expectations will be signed by the respective CE instructor in advance.

  2. EICCD may contract with a person, firm, or agency to instruct or perform other professional instructional, consulting, or course developmental services. The amount negotiated must be reasonable and subject to administrative approval. Without such approvals, the terms of the agreement are not subject to implementation. All contracts for professional services for the provision of CE instruction or other services shall be signed by the Vice Chancellor of Administration/CFO, or another approved EICC signatory.

If a person, firm, or agency holds themselves as an independent contractor, they must be paid consistently as such. They will be paid according to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Guidelines governing such agreements and will receive a Form 1099-NEC, a copy of which will be forwarded to the IRS when the payment meets or exceeds $600 annually.

Individuals hired as CE Instructors, and who do not hold themselves as independent contractors, will have taxes taken out at the time of payment.

  3. Any instructional or contracted professional service expenses must be calculated into the costs for the respective course(s) and/or program(s). The pricing model must also include all other costs, including the appropriate margin. If sufficient enrollment is not reached to cover costs, the course(s) or program(s) may be cancelled. Exceptions may be granted by administration.
