A 20 - Continuing Education Remuneration
- Instructor pay will be based on the market price of a given discipline. If a sufficient number of students do not enroll to cover at least the costs of instruction and supplies, the class will be cancelled, or, with the consent of the instructor, the instructor pay pro-rated in such a manner that direct instructional costs are covered. Records of all instructor pay rates will be kept on file and are subject to audit.
- EICCD may contract with a person, firm or agency to instruct or perform other professional services. The amount negotiated must be reasonable and is subject to administrative approvals. Without such approvals the terms of the agreement are not subject to implementation.
If a person, firm or agency holds themselves out to the public as an independent contractor, they must be paid consistently as such. They will be paid according to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Guidelines governing such employment and will receive a 1099 MISC, a copy of which will be forwarded to the IRS when the payment meets or exceeds $600 annually.
Individuals hired as adjunct faculty and who do not hold themselves out as independent contractors will have taxes taken out at the time of payment.
Professional, full or part-time employees of Eastern Iowa Community College District may be appointed on a contractual basis. When this occurs, the employee will be paid as a full-time employee working part-time, at a maximum hourly rate of their annual salary divided by 800.
- There may be occasions when it is justified to pay an individual for time not spent in the classroom, e.g., development/preparation, client consultation. Time other than classroom time will be paid at the same rate as instruction. Time in addition to classroom time for which payment is requested must be approved by the Director of Continuing Education before the appointment sheet is sent for the instructor’s signature.
- With the approval of the Chancellor, personnel may be employed by the District to develop and implement continuing education programming for specific geographic regions (s) or one or more business or industries within the Eastern Iowa Community College District service delivery area. Such individuals will be paid based on the salary scale determined by the Human Resources Office. In such cases, an expectation of program development and/or earned income as well as specific time frames will be identified in writing prior to hiring.
- Workshop aides will be paid $12.00 per hour. Aides may be paid for up to two hours in addition to the workshop time to cover preparation and clean up. This additional time is not automatic and should be paid only when necessary. If employees of Eastern Iowa Community College District are used for workshop aides, they will be paid their normal rate.
