BD 244 - Organizational Meeting


The Organizational Meeting of the Board of Trustees shall be held in December following the regular school election as required by law. Following the approval of the minutes of the previous meeting, the President shall ask the Secretary to serve as temporary chairperson for the Organizational Meeting.

The Secretary, acting as temporary chairperson, shall then call the Organizational Meeting to order. The order of business shall be:

 

  • Report on Official Canvass of Votes for Annual Regular School Election
  • Resolution Naming Newly Elected Trustees
  • Presentation of Certificates of Election
  • Oath of Office
  • Election of Officers
  • Oath of Office to President and Vice President
  • Appointment of Secretary and Treasurer
  • Oath of Office to Secretary and Treasurer
  • Establishment of Regular Meeting Time, Date and Place


Conduct of Elections: The Board shall elect from its membership a President and Vice-President. The elections shall be conducted by taking nominations from the floor. The election to office shall be by written ballot unless a motion is passed which provides for casting a unanimous ballot. If the election is by written ballot, the Secretary and Executive Officer shall act as tellers for the election of officers of the Board.

When the President has been elected and taken the Oath of Office, he or she will take the chair. Following the Organizational Meeting, the meeting will then continue according to the agenda format outlined in Board Policy 248.

In non-election years, the Organizational Meeting will take place in December for the purpose of electing the President and Vice President and appointing the Secretary and Treasurer.
