BD 203 - Board Members – Terms of Office Members
The Board of Trustees is composed of nine (9) members, one from each Director District. Each member is elected from a Director District by the electors of that Director District and shall be a resident of the district from which elected. No member shall serve on the Board of Trustees who is a member of a Board of Directors of a local school district or a member of an Area Education Agency Board of Directors.
Term of Office
Each member of the Board of Trustees is elected for a term of four (4) years, or to complete the unexpired term of a regularly elected member. Terms shall commence and expire at the Organizational Meeting held in December following the regular school election. Regular terms commence on that date also and members shall qualify by taking the oath of office prescribed in section 277.28 of the Code of Iowa.
Board Member Emeritus
The Board may choose to appoint Board Member(s) Emeritus in recognition of outstanding service to the Board. Board Member Emeritus status entitles the person to a position at the Board table, involvement in all discussions of the Board, and all the rights and privileges of Board membership, except voting rights. Board Member Emeritus status may be conferred with a two-thirds majority vote of the membership of the Board of Trustees.
