This course is the study of the political, cultural, social, and economic developments from 1877 to the present. Historical perspective and critical analysis are emphasized. This course satisfies a general education requirement in the Cultural/Historical Perspectives Area.This course has been designated as diversity rich.

SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Explain the significance of important concepts, names, places, and terms from the study of American history.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the interaction of cultural (literature, religion, philosophy, science and art) and social (politics, economics, society and war) forces on human history.
  • Describe the social and cultural influences motivating people's individual choices.
  • Critically analyze historical developments using primary and secondary source documents to create academically defensible opinions.
  • Identify areas of physical geographical importance and explain their impact on historical events.
  • Determine how the variety and multitude of historical individuals impact our present day society.
