BIO 163 - Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology

This course covers the fundamentals of human anatomy and physiology. Units of study include basic chemistry, cell structure and function, tissues, and the systems of the body, including integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, sensory, endocrine, cardiovascular, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive. This course satisfies a general education requirement in the Natural Sciences Area.

SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Explain the significance of homeostasis.

  • Understand how the properties of atoms and molecules affect the anatomy and physiology of cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems that make up the human body.

  • Describe the structures and functions common to cells of the human body.

  • Describe the basic structures and functions of the eleven organ systems of the human body.

  • Use critical thinking to evaluate scientific information to make informed decisions.
