This course is an examination of the fundamentals of behavior. It is designed to familiarize students with human behavior, how it is studied, and the applications of the results of that study. Theoretical issues, comprehension of research findings, and research techniques will also be examined. This course satisfies a general education requirement in the Social Sciences Area.
SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Demonstrate an understanding of social science methods used in analyzing social phenomena in the diversity of human perspectives.

Analyze critically the significance of important psychological concepts through research of their interrelationships, and application to everyday environments.

Demonstrate an understanding of the history of psychology and the various contributors to psychological theories over the years.

Recognize that objective psychology must be based upon research and scientific method.

Analyze critically the major biases inherent in psychological research incorporating various points of view through an examination of differences and holistic approaches.

Identify important psychological trends such as cross-cultural approaches and the application of psychological concepts in connection with wellness as opposed to strictly treatment of disorders.
