This course offers students an opportunity to explore ways in which the Humanities are integral in their personal and work lives, especially as they face change and make decisions. The course will explore works of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, history, philosophy, and art, and apply themes from these works to their own lives. This course satisfies a general education requirement in the Arts and Humanities Area.

SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Analyze Humanities artifacts to understand what artifacts say about the human experience.

  • Explain examples of the impact of change on the student's life and on the lives of others.

  • Describe some needs and hopes that the student shares with all humans.

  • Describe needs and hopes that make the student unique.

  • Apply themes from works by poets, essayists, historians, short story writers, and novelists to the student's life.

  • Describe interconnections between the Humanities and the student's chosen occupation and daily life.

  • Explain how to use a decision-making strategy to address a situation presented to the student.
