FLS 232 - Intermediate Spanish II

This course is equivalent to fourth-level college Spanish. It is designed to complete the second year of college Spanish coursework through practices of methods and materials presented in Intermediate Spanish I. Advanced examination of Hispanic culture using selected readings and multi-media presentations will aid the student in increasing speed and fluency in the spoken language. Translation skills will be enhanced as well. Exams will test oral, cultural, comprehension and written skills. This course may satisfy a general education requirement in the Cultural/Historical Perspectives Area.

Prerequisite(s): FLS 231  or 3 years of high school Spanish

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Create spontaneous written and spoken conversations and discussions across various time frames on concrete topics, using series of connected sentences and probing questions.
  • Analyze the main message and supporting details on a wide variety of general interest topics across various time frames from complex, organized texts that are spoken and written.
  • Present a detailed, organized presentation on familiar, as well as unfamiliar concrete topics that encompass various time frames.
  • Evaluate products and practices in their own and other cultures to mediate cultural perspectives.
  • Manage complex situations to ensure a shared understanding of culture.
