This course emphasizes understanding, speaking, reading and writing in elementary Spanish and is supplemented by cultural readings and multimedia presentations. This course may satisfy a general education requirement in the Cultural/Historical Perspectives Area.

SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify the general topic and some basic information in both familiar and everyday contexts by recognizing practiced or memorized words, phrases, and simple sentences in texts that are spoken and written in Spanish. 

  • Communicate informally in spontaneous spoken and written conversations using familiar and everyday topics, and a variety of practiced, memorized words, phrases, simple sentences, and questions in Spanish.

  • Present formally information on familiar and everyday topics, using a variety of practiced or memorized words, phrases, and simple sentences through spoken and written Spanish. 

  • Identify products and practices in their own and other cultures to help them better interpret cultural perspectives.

  • Use basic Spanish at a survival level in some familiar everyday contexts.
