ECE 133 - Child Health, Safety, and Nutrition

This course focuses on evidence-based concepts in the field of health, safety and nutrition and their relationship to the growth and development of the young child ages birth to eight years. It blends current theory with problem-solving, practical applications, and assessments. It includes the collaboration with families and assesses the role of culture, language, and ability on health, safety, and nutrition decisions in early childhood settings.

SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and directors to establish and maintain quality child care program through their ability to recognize chronic and acute health problems.

  • Devise preventive health care, prevent and treat minor injuries, and understand and promote the benefits of a well-nourished child.

  • Discuss with parents and families about the health, safety and nutrition of their young child or children.

  • Support the development of young children in a healthy and safe environment.

  • Show completion of certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, Universal Precautions and Mandatory Abuse Reporting.
