AGH 252 - Horticulture Pest Management

This course introduces students to the safe handling and use of horticulture chemicals. Using integrated pest management (IPM) practices, students will explore updated philosophies that protect the environment while controlling common pest. Students will take the state pesticide applicator's exam upon completion of this course. Residents of states other than Iowa should be able to successfully complete equivalent requirements in those states.

SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Safely and legally handle and use agriculture chemicals.

  • Calibrate application equipment.

  • Identify common pests of the Midwest and select the proper control methods for each pest.

  • Successfully pass the Iowa Core Manual Exam and the Ornamental and Turf category (3OT) to become a certified commercial or private pesticide applicator.
