AGH 221 - Principles of Horticulture

This course is a study in horticulture. The goal of this course is to provide the basic knowledge in horticulture science and clearly illustrate how that knowledge is applied in both home and production agriculture.

SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Analyze life cycles of plants.

  • Examine plant hardiness zones.

  • Demonstrate sexual and asexual plant propagation.

  • Explain horticulture and its relationship to agriculture.

  • Summarize the contributions and impacts of past horticulture professionals.

  • Describe plant classification system and be able to correctly write scientific names.

  • Describe the basics of cell biology, plant anatomy, morphology, etc. as a means to understand the growth and development of plants.

  • Determine the influence of light, temperature, moisture, soils, nutrients and other environmental factors on plant growth and development.

  • Evaluate the ways that horticulturalists influence environmental factors for optimal plant growth and development.
