This is a humanities course which has as its theme the interplay of work and the individual. It focuses on technological society and how the humanities can interpret and reflect upon that society. On the one hand, the course recognizes that scientific and technological literacy remains an essential aspect of what it means to be an educated person in the twenty-first century. On the other hand, the course acknowledges that, regardless of culture, race, gender, age, and other factors, there are basic human characteristics of responding to new situations. It focuses on the idea that the shared experiences of living in a body, having the conscious awareness that we do, being able to communicate that knowledge and share the experience of life with others-and knowing that bodies don’t live forever are the same simply by virtue of our being born human. 59.4 Lec.
