HIT 252 - Coding III

This course is a continuation of a three-part coding sequence. It is designed to provide students the opportunity to become proficient coders. Students will apply coding guidelines, rules, and regulations. Case scenarios and actual medical records will be used to code International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) diagnoses, International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Procedure Coding System (ICD-10-PCS) procedures and Current Procedural Terminology, 4th Edition (CPT-4) procedures. Students will assign appropriate codes through chart documentation review and analysis, assign diagnosis-related groups (DRGs) and ambulatory payment classifications (APCs) utilizing 3M coding and reimbursement software. Students will learn valid reimbursement optimization techniques. 59.4 Lec. Hrs.

Prerequisite(s): A minimum grade of C- in HIT 312  , HIT 422  , HIT 485  , and HIT 596 .
