CHM 261 - Organic Chemistry I Credit(s) 4.00 Lecture Hours: 3.00 Lab Hours: 2.00 Study includes the classes of organic compounds: aliphatic hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, alcohols and phenols. Attention is also on methods of instrumental analysis including IR, NMR, and mass spectrometry. A functional group approach with emphasis on nomenclature, structure and bonding, physical properties, basic synthetic reactions and mechanisms. This course satisfies a general education requirement in the Natural Sciences Area.
Prerequisite(s): CHM 175 or CHM 176
